how many hours of light per day

Im just trying to figure out how long to leave my lights on per day. i just got new lights for my tank dual 65watt with moon lights. now ive been running them 8 hours a day every day and ive got alot of green brown algae growing on everthing in my tank and everything in my skimmer is green . is this normal with a new tank or do I need to cut back on how long I run my lights?

I run my daylights for 9 hours, and yes the algae is normal for a new tank, you could cut them back to try to get rid of it though not necessary.

12 hours here. If you have a reef then figure its from near the equator. They have 12 hour day night most of the year.
