Would like to know how many Volitan Lions can I house in a 150 gallon tank?

I'm sure other more experienced folks on here can answer your question precisely, but figure on what your fish load is & that particular species of lionfish grows to about 15". I always figure on the maximum size before even thinking about putting a new fish in because I don't want a mess or death from overloading. Hope this helps.

In that sized tank, I'd say one.
Any more than that and you're going to have territorial issues.

So what would be a good size tank to house 2 or maybe even 3 Volitans?

How long have you had both?...and, what size were they when you bought them?
And...you stated you have a 220gal, which might be fine...but the author of the post is asking about more than one in a 150gal. There's a big difference between 150 and 220.

I'd say as long as you do not have alot of LR in the tank, and more swim room for them, you should be able to get 2 in there no problem.

I find it hard to believe that a Volitan, that was 2" long when you bought it, has grown to 12" in 3 years....they're not fast growers.
Maybe you have guestimated or have measured wrong?

And again, I ask....are you guestimating or have you actually broken out the measuring tape and measured from nose to base of tail?
It's easy to say "I have an 8" fish", when in reality, it's very difficult to estimate without actually measuring.
No matter the growth rate of the fish, I still do not believe it's advisable to put 2 Volitan Lions in a 150gal. tank, especially if other tankmates are involved.

if you keep mellow fish in this tank no triggers wrasses ect you can get away with 2 as long as you dont over crowd your tank.even that is pushing it.i also recomend just one for a 150 the measurements from front to back isnt much dif than a 125..if your going to house more active fish.and i beg to differ on the growth rate my smaller lions was about 1 1/2-2 inches when i baught him last feb 2005 i know the dates cus i get tanks and fish ect for holidays and i got my first reef on val day 2005 ,55 gal 1st photo 2nd photo was about a month or so later 3rd pick he was placed in my 120 reef which i got for mothers day same yr 4th pic he was in my 90 gal which i got for my bday in july then he was set in a 100 gal tank in in nov but i didnt get good pics of him in that one hes now about 8-9 inches last photo was taken this yr i do beleive last month or feb hes in my 300. so yes they do grow fast depending on feeding schedule
