How many live sand can i have with a 29gl tank?

I have a 29 gl tank and i am not sure how many live sand i can have ?
i live in CA so i can't found any southdown sand so i was thinking of just puting 40 lbs of live sand will that be ok?

Welcome to the board!
In your tank, 40lbs will only give you a little over 1" of sand. For a deep sand bed, (dsb) which will help alot in the denitrification process, you need about 3-4" inches. Go to your local fish store (lfs) and ask them for some aragonite sand...about half the price of live sand, and it will become "live" in a few months as well.

well the lfs in my area that sell ls is onsale they sell 20lbs for only $25 so i guess i will go buy more ls :)

You can start with dry sand and seed it with live sand on top. All will be live in a couple of months. That will be cheaper than buying all live sand.
