250w metal halide 20k lights? Also is it to much for our 125 gallon, remind you we only have a 4ft light and the tank is 6ft, would it be alright to use this? We were also told to leave the lights 12 inches from the tank, is this right? There is also 2- 110watt UV tube lights. I don't know what to set the timers on, any help? There is not much growing on the rocks as of yet, most of it died due to the move, we live in michigan and got the tank in ohio. Thanks in advance for all who reply

The higher you place it the larger the foot print in the tank.
Do you have a canopy or will you hang it from the celing ?
Also did you get ONE or TWO ??
I have 1 M.H. on my 125 I need to get another.

250 watt is good for your tank.
i have 14k 250's on my 90 gallon.
20k will have a very blue look to it. the higher the k the bluer the light. and the lower the k the better the growth. so keep that in mind.
dont know about the 12" away thing. my setup is on legs and is only about 6-8 inches from the surface.

I have 2 x 250w MH and 4 50/50 antics hanging 1 foot above my 75g only because I have 760w total way to much light for my tank. And I run the MH for 4hrs 11 am to 3 pm ,with the last hr. over- laping with the antic which I run for 12hrs 2pm to 12 am.

I run 2 x 250w 14ks and 4 x 54w of t-5 lighting over my 90 -- about 6 inches about the water and it's just fine. I run lights 8 hours a day for halides and 10 hours a day for t-5's.
Corals will acclimate to the lighting.. just don't blast them in the most intense part right away.
