How many people use vitamins for fish?

I have some vita-chem that I put on the fish food a few times a week and I feel like it does nothing. Does anyone feel like it helps their fish or had a sick fish and used some sort of vitamin supplement that worked. The only stuff I have used that seem to work was Nitro-Max and Marine-Max. I noticed results with them in a couple of days. Still the thing that works the fastest, best and cheapest for me is garlic in the food. I soak slices of garlic overnight and feed just like normal. I have a hippo tang that gets white spots I put garlic in the food and the next day they're gone. The vita-chem is like 18 dollars a bottle so, I feel like I'm just wasting my money. Any thoughts? Thanks!

I've used it in the past when I had a FO tank. I use to add it to the tank and into the food. I felt the same way...was it a waste. My skimmer seemed to pull alot of it out of the water. Now I only add it to the food directly about once a week. Seems to be fine. I do use it heavily in a hospital tank when I'm treating a fish for diseases especially popeye. I don't think you need to use it if you are adding other supplements like reef essentials..etc..

I use ZOE and Coral-vite.Both by Kent marine and am pleased with the results. If you have a Tang you should be using a vitamin suppliment. It wont do a thing to clear "white spots" Thats probably ich,or some other parasite.Garlic will help there. STEVE

I use vitam-chem and I love it.. I swear by it. I think it is one of the best marine vitamins availible. I would stick w/ it. I have used it in cases of ich and it does seem to help their mucus membrain and immune system. TJ

another thing. only use it in their food. I can see were you think it's a waste. It's about half that price were I buy. I use a lot more then several drops, it's more like serveral squirts. To overdose vitamins you would have to use the whole bottle. TJ

I have used vita chem for a few years and feel it kept my fish healthy but I have been using Zoe heavy spirullina formula for the last few months and think it is much better. I only ever add vitamins to the food because adding to the water can cause algae blooms. I think the manufactures tell you to add it to the water because if you have a large tank you will use alot.

cvar, The vitamins usually come as a liquid. Put the flake in a small cup, then add just enough of the liquid to soak the flake. Then dip out some of the tank water with the cup, swish it around and pour it in. STEVE

Cvar,
I add the vitamins (liquid) on the frozen cubes I cut up into bite sizes (i.e. Formula, Angel forumula, frozen brine, etc..) I add the drops onto the food and let it soak in for an hour or 2 and then feed the fish. I don't do it to the flakes (probably a mess).
