How many pounds of southdown are needed to put a 4" DSB in a 75g tank? How many pounds of live sand do I need to seed this with? Thanks for the help.

75 lbs. - CaribSea "Aragamax Sugar-Sized Sand" (Top layer)
75 lbs. - CaribSea "Seaflor Super reef"(Bottom layer)
That should give you a good 4" DSB

Here is a simple formula to figure the amount needed:
length x width x desired depth of DSB x .0579 = lbs sand needed
(length/width/desired depth all in inches)
I like a combination of sand sizes....I used Caribsea oolitic(sugar sized stuff) and Carib sea special seaflor grade(assorted sizes)...and Natures Ocean LS.....I personally like to use approximately 20% of the total as LS....the rest split between the 2 Caribsea products.

IMO don't add any larger sizes deliberately. The finer the better. There will always be some large grains in any bag. Secondly, buy at least 20% more than you think you will need. I used 210 lbs in a 55g and ended up with 5" depth. I had to make a trip to the LFS in the middle of my changeover (for an extra 60 lbs) when it became apparent that the 150 lbs I planned on would only yield around 3". No matter where the large grains or pieces start, they will always end up on the top, where you do not really want them.
