It depends on what you are going to keep. Fish only use a combined total gph turnover of about 75x15=1,125. If you plan on keeping corals then I believe it's atleast 75x20/25=1,500 to 1,875gph. Keep in mind that just because the filter or wet/dry or whatever says 1,200 doesn't really mean that. there are considerations to take like how high does it have to pump straight up etc.

I have a 75 gallon as well which is just fish with about 75lbs of live rock at the moment. I have two MaxiJet 1200s (rated at 290 gph each); however, I also have two Rena XP 2 external filters on my tank, each of which also have a rating of close to 300 gph (although there is some debate how accurate that number is).
But, as hot883 said, the forumula you are going to use depends on what you are doing with your tank.
