you can have as many clowns as you want as long as they are the same species, to my understanding. You can have all percs, all maroons, all tomatoes but you can't have various types.

Usually two will pair up and then pick on all others. NEVER recommended to have more than 2 of any kind in any size of tank.

Only way you can have more than two is if they are juveniles . Once they mature and pair up you would need to seperate them .

I like my clarki, good size for a 125g. Or also I like black and white false percs, sold as percs but really not.

i thought you could have a couple and only the two dominent ones would pair all the others (however many there are) will just swim around

if there are no anemenes present and the fish are added at the same time and are VERY close to the same size, you should be fine with mixing species. The larger the tank the better just to ward off a bully or two. For example, you have 1 maroon gold stripe of course, a perc, a clarkii, and tomato of the same size and add them at night at the same time, you will be surprised at how well they share the tank. Try to stay away from two of the same species, as they will pair off eventually. remember ... NO ANEMEONE !!

My favorites are the maroons. Their "plumage" or big pedal-like pec fins are beautiful. They have a great deal of personality. Gold stripes of course. White stripe maroons can be monsters toward other clowns. Even as juviis, the gsm's take the cake. I am setting up my 3rd tank very soon just for a pair of juvii white stripes that are GORGEOUS!! Those fins just got me hooked on the marron as clown of choice. My best to you on your journey with the clowns...you learn thru trial and error though. What has never worked for some may work for you all the time. Some say to NEVER house more than 1 angel per tank. I have an adult emperor, a french, a queen, a bicolor and a maculosus in the same tank ( 180g) The EMP. is def. the boss but no fighting in over a year. All the same size and added them at night with the lights off so the newcomer doesn't get attacked right off the bat. as with any newcomer...ADD YOUR FISH AT NIGHT!! IT WORKS!!! LOL

First , it doesn`t matter if there is an anemone or not as different species host different nems . Second , I`ve mixed clowns with no problems like you have and just because it worked for you and I doesn`t mean it will for someone else . This is bad advice to be giving someone as fish have personalities and could be a fighting battle until they are dead . There is a reason why professionals say not to mix species . If you are willing to take the chance with the $$ you spend on the clowns as eventually they will fight to death , then go for it .
Just because a very low percentage been able to mix doesn`t mean it`s ok to do so and these people should not be giving advice to mix different species . CoralHammer , your might be fine now but eventually will fight and at least two will die .

and remain juviniles....thats what the book I have says, only one will become female, and only one will become male, the rest will stay juviniles, and if the female goes "missing" then the male will become female and the next dominant one will take his place as male and the remaining will again stay juvinile....and the cycle continues this way....
as long as you have the proper tank space, wouldn't it be ok, to even have 20 or more in one tank....'just wondering'

of course maroons can go into a reef tank. and yes gold tripes are the same as yellow stripes. ...and again yes fisg DO have personalities but they are "dumb" animals that can be "tricked" into be social creatures.
No it will NOT work for everyone, my advice wasn't that ANYONE should go for it, my advice is based on MY personal exepriences because the mix that I currently have is what I wanted in MY PERSONAL tank, it just happens to work for ME. Through trial and error I found out what will make the lil guys behave in a community.
PS..for the record... DAWNMAN...George Bush is a proffessional also.Think about it.
