Depending on your setup FO, FOWLR or Reef you should strive for somewhere between 5 and 15 cycles per hour. Reefs require the most and the fish enjoy the circulation also, I have a total of 6 MJ 1200's on a wave maker and it works great for simulating the wave action on a reef
