I finally got my dosing pump today. Its the Aquadose gravity doser. Now i need to know how much Kalk to add to my tank. The instructions dont really say how much to add. I have a 55 gallon reef tank. Any ideas on how much i should add? Thanks

Drewster,
Not an expert at dosing Kalkwater but here is a link to some pretty good articles.
Go to http://saltaquarium.about.com/pets/s...rium/mbody.htm
then click on aquarium care
then calcium
then kalkwater / limewater
you'll find a ton of info that I hope helps you with your new dosing pump !
Pay close attention to procedures for mixing, and adding kalk to tank, it is great stuff if added properly, but can have a dramatic affect on your pH of added to quickly. Also check up on alkalinity. It seems like calcium / alkalinity go hand in hand. Good luck man !

That about.com site doesn't really tell me how much to add to my tank unless i'm not understanding it. It basically tells me to watch my Ph and Alk levels. I bought the Aquadose 1400ml doser because i didn't think i'd need the 1 gallon or 5 gallon jug. I filled the doser with filtered tap water and poured it into a jug and then added about a half teaspoon of kalk. I stirred and now i'm going to let it sit for a few hours. Then i plan on adding the mixture back into the doser and dripping it into my tank overnight. Sound good to anybody? Do i do this everyday? A half a teaspoon of kalk doesn't seem like a lot.

Still confused on how much kalk to add to my tank. I am now adding 1400ml each night. Is this too much? Thats all my doser holds.

Hi Drewster. Get yourself a clean 5 gallon container with top. Put your filtered tap water into the 5 gallon container. Add 2 teaspoons maximum per gallon of fresh water and stirr slowly. let sit for a few hours. It is normal for a crust to develop on top and a white precipitate may form on the bottom of the container. Add your mixture into the doser dripping it slowly into tank overnight.
Hope this helps
Terry
