What's the tank's dimensions?? For a 48" tank that's no more than 24" deep, 2-250s would do the job!!

thanks, i have more for ya.
are metal halides the bulbs that give off that real nice blue light or does that come from the actinic bulbs?
also, do you have to hang all metal halide fixtures from the ceiling, because those are the only one's ive seen?

Well, the 20,000k MH bulb produces a blue light but I think what you are referring to are the actinics.
6500k MHs are yellowish
10k MHs are whitish
12k-14k MHs are whitish/blue
20k MHs are bluish

Not all but most of the full fixtures I have seen are hanging. With a wood canopy you can mount the MHs inside the canopy... and I have seen some that have legs and sit on top of the tank.

I hope im not killin you with questions. I really appreciate your input.

Why not the MHs?? Really they don't cost a lot more than fluorescents when you consider the amount of light they provide.
VHOs would be my first choice of fluorescents, then PC then T-5s. But that's just personal preference.
MHs I would go with a 2-250w & 2-110w VHOs fixture... 515.00
VHOs I would go with a 6-110w fixture... $539.00
PCs I would go with a 4-96w fixture... 500.00
T-5s I would go with a 8-54w fixture... ????
You may find them cheaper but these are the ones I know of... and again, this is all just my opinion.
All of these would allow you to keep a wide verity of corals. The MHs would allow you to keep the more light demanding corals, clams and anemones.
Retro fit kits are a lot cheaper but you would need a canopy.
