How much light?

New to sea horses but experienced with FOWLR. How much light do you recommend for a 30 XH tank? its 24" deep. I will not be doing coral (I always say that but end up changing later) but I have learned from my other tanks not to skimp on anything or I end up buying something twice. I would like to make certain I have enough light to reach the bottom but I don't want to add too much heat. Would a 250W metal halide be too much? I don't have a chiller now as livingin New England and tanks in the basement heat has never been a problem. Would T5 HO 96 watt 65watt or compact pc 65 watt be better?
Looking for some ideas on what has worked for you.
Thanks much.

You don't need any special lighting for seahorses. The standard NO flourescent that comes with a regular hex hood will be fine. I would not put a halide or HO lighting on the tank unless you need it for something. It would likely create unnecessary algae growth, which happens often in a lower-flow seahorse tank.
