For a 40 gallon tank I would suggest about 220 watts of VHO as a minimum, 360 watts would be more ideal.

i successfully kept mine under 130wts of pc lighting (40 gal tank), and it even split 1x.
(dodging flames)- sorry guys- i know everyone says go with mh, but i had a great experience with mine under pc's. when i upgraded, both of my anem's died, and my hammer coral took a beating- i have since downgraded back to the pc's.
pls, if you are going to go with anem's, pls go with the halides. i just got lucky.

Bubble tips can be kept quite comfortably with out metal halides. VHO and PC are enough if you can get up into the higher end side of either.

I had mine in a 30 with 192 watts of pc and he was doing great. I have upgraded and new lights and he is now not doing good but all my Pink Tips are just fine. Just the bta is having issues.

No I wouldn't, but thats my personal recommondation. I tried 80 watss over a 55 gallon and almost killed an anemone.
Promlem is when you get to the nano tanks like 30 and under the watts per gallon rule just doesn't work at all. Again I'd say 160 or 220watts for a 30 gallon might do.
