Hello, I'm new and have spent more than I thought I would. One of my friends owns a fish store in Portland and sells everything to me at cost. I have a 125 gal. with everything ready to be piped together and I'm at $1800.00 and counting.

i had spend close to $600 on my 20g. then i decided to "upgrade" to a 90g, but instead of using stuff from 20g i went out a nd bought new stuff for the 90. so im around $1500 [thats including tons of DIY] in 90g. and i still need a controller, Ca reactor, pH and Ca monitors and controlers [either one], 2 tunze "powerheads" and a decent UV unit.
i'd say another 2k for sure in the near future.
i need to get a rich husband ASAP

No way do you want to keep track of that. Hide the figures and burn the reciepts. Do you want you spouse to know! My tank is my drug so I am a Junkie and don't keep track!

Let's just say if my husband knew what I have spent on the two tanks, he would be asking for another Corvette to restore for the car show season.
We are getting a third tank which he agreed to - thank God I was smart enough to tell him there is no third Vette.

i got a sweet deal on a 135g up and running, lets just say that my new euro reef cost me almost as much as the tank! That being said I'm sure the cash in going to be flowing!

Lmao! If your asking how much it costs, then you are into it for the wrong reason!

I agree. Especially when different parts of the country sell livestock and products that reflect what their individual market will tolerate.
I'm farther from the shores and airports, therefor my LFS has prices that reflect the extra costs and lack of real competition. Someone living in Florida for example gets far better deals there than I do here in Iowa.
I didn't get into this to just throw money away but to enjoy the hobby just as my husband enjoys prepping cars for car shows. Each of us spends money, and each of us spend more on our hobbies than we do designer clothes but we each have something we enjoy and yet can share the hobby with the other to a certain degree so both people have benefits of the other person's passion.
This hobby has never been one I'd recommend to those that are faint at heart when it comes to spending money. If they want to have a hobby that doesn't involve spending money, they could always walk the city parks and collect bottle caps.
Denise M. <--- spends more than she cares to know if I added it up for both hobbies.
