How much of a yellow tinge does your syphoned-out water change water have?

Just curious. Because, when my reef first got established, my waste water was a lot more yellow than it is lately. I have been doing 15 percent water changes on a weekly basis to get it top notch. Plus, my DSB has started getting effective I think, and I have been aggresively skimming. Kicker is, I have been feeding more too. But, either way, I have noticed a lot less yellow tinge when I syphon my waste water out.

Add some carbon and it will help take that tinge out, and help give it that crystle clear look.

i second on carbon. Also, i'm curious, why you have yellow water. Could it be because your skimmer doesn't strong enough? I know you have that Berlin Classic, but maybe there's some problem with it???

Yeah thats a good point. Funny enough, I don't run carbon. Guess I should considering there is no down side. But, the display tank's water isn't yellow with the lights on so much. I just notice a slight yellow tinge in the waste water I syphon out. Nothing too bad. But, Barracuda, remember how we talked about the skimmer last week. This is part of why I was asking about it. Good memory. But yeah, I am wondering if I need that venturi adapter, or a stronger pump. Thanks yall.

yellowish water usually represents high DOM (dissolved organic matter) level. You can easily check if it's too significant. Clean 2 opposite glass sides of your tank. Take a piece of white paper and stick it on one side (from outside ). Go to the other side of the tank and look through it, so that you can see that piece of white paper. If DOM level is significantly high, you will see that piece of paper yellow(yellowish) in color (instead of white).

I like your test plan. I think I am going to try it when I get home. I always thought it was a little extra fish pee or something like that.

we have a carnival goldfish that just won't die, every time I change the water in his little two gallon tank, the water is really golden color--we always thought he was shedding!!! Guess I could change the water more often, but he must be tough, he's lived over two years as it is.
