How much sand?

Hello: Need a little help please. I am putting together a 20 Gal High tank using everything from my 12 gal. I am going to be adding a jawfish goby to this new tank and I don't know how much sand to use. There is no sand in the 12 gal now and I want to make sure this little guy has enough to make himself a nice home. The tank measures 24" length and 17" high. Thanks for any suggestions.

aim for ~3 inch deep.

I have a 20g high also with about a 3 inch sand bed so thats what i would shoot for.

Well thats what they suggest for the fish in the books I've seen, that way they have borrow room.
