my 90 gal reef looses about 1.5 gallons of water to evaporation because i use a fan above my metal halides i top off with r/o water i use aragamilk and iodide in the top off water, alk and calcium levels are good my question is what would you want as a limit for water loss per day thanks

i also lose 1 - 2 gallons of water a day with my 100 gallon tank i have about 480 wats pc over it with 2 3" PC fans in the canopy to cool down the lights...
i havent had a problem with losing "too much" water i think as long as you keep it topped off with fresh ro/di water your good and your other levels are ok then u should be fine...
i recently added a automatic top off system to my tank.... works very good... i just refil the 5 gallon jug every 4-5 days when needed and it does the rest that way my salinity stay stable instead of doing a water add all at one time it does it slowly through out the day as needed....
you should think of getting one if u dont have one....
and leave top off its better

i have pics of my set up if u need...
good luck!

Thats normal. Natural humitity makes a differance as well, less humid, the faster evaperates.

I've got a 36g bowfront and ever since I started using eggcrate on top, and upgraded to 130W lighting, I lose probably 3/4" of water a day. Over the course of a week I've almost got my 10% water change done for me!

zero I hope that the evaporation isn't really consider your water change. Your tank needs mag. which is in the salt that you use for your water changes. If you just add water to your set up then your only putting water and not replacing the salt.
