I wondered into the petstore a couple days ago and saw that they had Several Puffer fish and a Lion fish for sale this amazed me b/c i have only seen them in the wild when i went snokeling in Hawaii(the puffer not the Lion  ). I was wondering what kind of setup would be best one Porkypine(sp) Puffer and maybe a couple other small tank mates preferaably some really nice bright colors. Now i am not BRAND new to this but i am 100% newbie when it comes to aggresive saltwater fish. I mean i have several small fresh water tanks when i was a kid and i even had a fresh water cat fish that i raised from the timeit was a really small to the time it was about 4 inchs long and got to big for my 10gal tank. that was really cool b/c i found him in the pond infront of my house and raised him i called him ed :D sorry for rambling but nobody else cares enough for me to tell them.

Pork puffers get super big when it comes to puffers, I would suggest a smaller breed of puffer and a min. of 55 gallon for these. I am also new at this and am going by what I have read on this board.
Search for other posts about porks to learn more about them.

That depends, I got my full setup for well over $500, but that was a corner tank and everything was new. Used tanks can be much cheaper for a much larger tank.
My advice is to do some research at lfs (local fish stores)-prices will vary some.

For a min Puffer set up I would go at least a 75 Gallon (not that much more then a 55 but deeper more turning room for the fish). Most aquaruim companies run monthly specials for the lfs and if you can get in on one the price for a full tank, hood, light and stand can be very reasonable. Oceanic does this every month and my store always has a monthly special going but the tank size can be different each time. Heck even a 65 would work and there was a special on those 2 months ago for under 300 complete (less filters and accessories of course. Talk to your store and see if they get in on these and what is coming up. The Puff will get to about 6 inches normally (some do get bigger if fed well) but they are COOL and the centerpiece of any tank they are in (I am predjudiced you can see). Now there are smaller Puffers as Hawkeye mentioned normally found are Valentini's and Sharpnose varieties, but I assume you saw either a Pork or a Dogface and they do get much larger then the other species.

Pufferlover they have both a Dogface and a Pork. What are some good tank mates for either puff?

edit: oh ya could you give actual brands of good equiptment? that would be a big help.

Can not give any stores here not allowed (if I did they would have to kill us both). As far as equipement that I can do. I use a lot of Emperor filters, Skilter 250's, Whisper 2's on small tanks, CC on all tanks, UV's 15Watt on 135 and 125, 8Watt on one of my grow out 20's which has been giving me problems lately with Ick. I prefer Oceanic tanks but have some All-Glass up to my 65 size above all Oceanic. Prism Skimmer on my reef with a Emperor 400 (not what many would say to do but in over a year I have had only great things happen in that tank). As far as Puffers and what you can do for them and with them give me a hollar thru my homepage and I will wow you with more about Puffs then you probably want or need to know but what the heck I love the big eyed devils.

ya i am actually having second thoughts about getting a puffer. I don't know why but somewhere in my brain it says not to jump right into the big fish i mean $30 on a fish is alot of pressure on me. I am thinking maybe a few different kinds of Damsels would be a better start. Sorry asking all the questions and then nothing coming of it. I will more than likly move up to a puff or a Lion later but right now i have alot of doughts about starting out with a puff.
god i hate how ficle i can be sometimes!! its so annoying
edit: but damnit there such cool little guys!!!! i am so torn on this!!! PLEASE RELEIVE MY PAIN!!! :p

Well viking...atlest you realized sooner than later that should not get a puffer just yet. Most people would get it and then realize it was a mistake to late. Yeah, I suggest since you are new, start out with something smaller and heartier. (it takes a lot to kill a damsel...they are tough little boogers)
I am about to start my 55 aggressive tank but before I do I wanted to make sure I had enough money to support my tank and have enough information on my fish. Right now I have a 20 gallon reef and absolutely love it... maybe you should start with something small with that...but I must warn you that this hobby tends to get REALLY expensive.
Good luck and please feel free to ask any question!! :)

its not that scary at all the only time i am scared is when i am standing in the door about to jump. But once out of the plane its just alot wind. I love the sport b/c of the people they make it so much fun. Even if you don't wanna jump just hang out at a Dropzone for a weekend and you will see what i mean.

I might just have to go and check it out then....I think if I ever did skydive someone would have to push me out of the plane becuase I know I would never jump! :)
