sorry, stupid question, but finals are coming up real quick and i haven't really left my house, except to go to class. anyway, point is i haven't been able to get to any LFS to price tanks. looking to start my setup, but i need to start softening up my wife before i hit her with the idea of spending $1500+...and not having any fish yet.
how much for a glass 75gal RR, stand & canopy? i know its hard to say exactly, but ballpark...
thanks

I know that just the tank itself will run you about 400, and the stand is about 300, depending on where you shop.
LFS's are a bit more pricey on their tanks I believe, or maybe that's just mine.

Tank, Stand, Hood with NO light around here is right around $400. That is for a 72 gallon all-glass bow front. If you go with LR you are talking about 75-150 pounds which would cost at least $450 and more like $650, unless you can find someone selling live rock cheaper. Use Southdown Sand, that will save you a ton of money. $200 or so for a nice skimmer and add in the price of a two or three powerheads, a heater or two. If you want corals you will need a light that will cost a few more hundred. You could go with a FOWLR or a fish only with base rock and that would be a lot cheaper. Lots of options. All depends on what you want.
Research and learn how to use a sump/refugium. I wish I would have before I bought my set up. Good luck. If you check out the classified board here you might find a whole used setup for a lot cheaper. You might have to take a drive to pick it up but that would save you a ton of money.
Good Luck.

thanks guys
bededog, is that 72g reef ready?
was at a lfs this morning, they got an 80g for right around $500 with the stand and the hood, but its not RR. any idea on the price difference for a reef ready and a regular tank? your probably thinking...why didn't you ask at the LFS...i'm not a morning person, i wasn't thinking clearly, i hadn't had my coffee okay.
going with 30lbs TBS on 60lbs of base rock ( i've got time...). no southdown in Tucson, but i'm looking for alternatives.
sump/refuge is going to be an old 29g with a euroreef es5-3, a 4" sand bed in refuge with about 15 lbs of fiji LR, and total water volume of just shy of 20g in the sump. i want around 1000 gph, not sure what i'm going to use as my return pump. 2 150w ebo-jager heaters in the sump i think, or should i go with 2 200w heaters?
lighting will be PC's-2 96w 10000K daylights and 2 65w acintic. i would like to keep some soft corals, polyps, LPS, zoos.
fishwise, in order of addition...jawfish, 6 line wrasse, maroon OR false perc, flame angel OR bicolor angel.
let me know what you guys think.
