This is kinda a depressing post. I just wanted to ask anyone that wants to answer how many dollars worth of inverts, fish, etc. that people have lost. I'll start. Powder blue tang 80$, purple tang 80$, 4 chromis 16$, lawnmower blenny 17$, manderin 16$, flame angel 48.99$, 2 clownfish 30$, foxface 20$ and various inverts and corals. I bet I have lost over 500$ in everything. That is a lot of money. Anyone else want to share?

There was a point (late July/early August) in my very short fishkeeping life when, because of sheer ignorance, I lost plenty of fish. Angels: bi-color, half-black, coral beauty; wrasses: two yellow corris; butterflies: longnose; damsels: domino, three-striped; surgeons: yellow tang, sailfin tang. WOW! What was I thinking!
Total cost: About $135.00
Let us all learn from our mistakes, so that they may never reoccur. Above all, let us do plenty of research before bringing these beautiful creatures into our homes....

I agree ... do your homework before purchasing any live creature. I have only been involved in the saltwater hobby since April .... haven't lost one fish ... but due to my own lack of experience I lost a beautiful Bubble Tip Anemone due to crappy lighting. I have upgraded my lighting now and the other anemone has recovered nicely. Also lost a cleaner shrimp ~ cause of death unknow ~ I was on vacation for 2 weeks and tank sitter did not realize it was gone. Think it must have died and cleanup crew took care of it's remains.
Read and understand as much as you can first.

I've had my tank for a little over a year now, and I would like to brag (and knock on wood) that I've never had a death...
I think that the reason is I'm too afraid to put more fish in the tank, and I keep it very under-populated. there just aren't enough fish to spoil the water :)

I've lost so much money in this hobby and it not becuase I don't know what I'm doing. It is due to negligence. My water is fine but what has done it for me is several tragedies. I live in an apartment and a few times this summer I left for the weekend without the ac on and get back to an 85 degree apt. and a bunch of dead fish. Also another time I left for a week and my fish didn't get fed by the person who was supposed to stop by and feed them so they died too. Some how my two bionic cleaner shrimp survived all. So, now I am only going to buy cheap and hardy damsels until I get a house.

Now that I think about it, I have lost plenty of fish, and it is very depressing. I lost a blue-yellow tail (attacked), some other damesl (disease) a clown (heat) cleaner shrimp (attacked) fire shrimp (eaten, god I was mad) peppermint shrimp (half eaten) sebea anemone (poor lighting). I hope that is it, I totaled these and it came out to about $100. that is alot on a students budget.
