How Often Do You Change Your Filter Socks?

Hello everyone, this is the first setup where my sump includes a single 4 Inch Filter Sock as a part of its filtration. However, I'm noticing the my 100 Micron and 200 Micron Filter Socks start to overflow every 4 days. Also I read in the instructions that you can actually wash the filter sock in the washer machine. My questions are this.
1. How often do you have to change your filter socks?
2. How do you clean your filter socks? Do you wash out your filter socks in the wachine machine?
3. Do you just replace your filter socks every time they start to overflow?

as long as you keep washing the filter sock good each week the sock should last until the sock start to come apart.

I run 2 different micron sizes, 10 and 5 micron. I can go 2 days on the 10's and about 12 hours on the 5's. I alternate each size every other time. when my last sock is ready to change I pull it and toss them all in the washer with a little bleach and run them twice Through the wash cycle and air dry .

I've never replaced my filter socks, I just clean them. Mine tend to overflow about every 10-14 days, and I just toss them in the washing machine and run them through the rinse cycle. They come out clean as a whistle. Personally I wouldn't put soap, bleach or anything else in the washing machine, but that's up to you.

if its a reef you want to try to change them every 2-3 days to keep them from producing nitrates. the easiest thing to do is have a bunch of them and save up a bunch in a salt bucket with some water and run them through your washing machine when you are about to run out. a small amount of bleach is good just be sure to run them through an extra rinse cycle and allow them to air dry for a couple days which will give the bleach time to fully evaporate. if you dont have a lot of them and rinsing them under fresh water and allowing them to dry for a couple days is fine.
