how often do you trim your chaeto?

I've recently added chaeto to my fuge and it doesn't seem to be growing too quickly. Others claim that theirs grows like crazy, so I'm just wondering how often most of you trim yours up? Once every two weeks?

I wouldnt touch it if its not growing, you might stress it and kill it, Start trimming when it gets to big to handle, there is no time frame.

When I fist added cheato it seemed to take forever to grow at first. Now it seems like I have to trim it all the time. Like others have said, trim it when it gets too big for your fuge space.

I prefer Caulerpa because it reduces ammonia, nitrates, and phosphates from the aquarium. In addition, it helps remove heavy metals and neutralize's toxins. Caulerpa also provides a pH buffer and produce chemicals which protect the skin, intestines, and gills of aquarium fish. The only disadvantage that I see is that it can go asexual...that's why I have a Javanese damsel in the fuge...he's great at trimming it down for me :)

chaeto grows at different rates becuase no two systems are identicle.
It is going to suck up nutrients out of your system and grow with whats available. So if your system is nutrient poor (which is a good thing in a reef system) your chaeto will grow slowly. Every time you feed, even a little you are introducing nutrients to the system so chances are eventually your chaeto will take off. Whenever mine has grown enough to push part of itself above water line I break the ball in half and either give it away or toss it - which is about every four months.

Yep, I do the same. Although, I constantly spread it apart so that it grows more and more thick.
