Hello - I have a large mushroom rock this growing out of control. The large purple mushrooms are starting to cover up the zoas and pipe organ that are on the rock. I would like to take some of the mushrooms of and place them in other places in my tank. What is the best way to detach them and reattach them. Thanks.

Hey I dont have the answer to your question, but am waiting because I also need to know about attaching mushrooms. Waiting for some good info, but you can send me some of those mushrooms if they get to be to much. LOL

Alright I did a little looking and I think the best way to attach the mushrooms would be to get a little container and poke holes in it and fill it with the mushrooms you want to attach and a few small peices of rock ruble. Leave them in the container until the mushrooms attach. Keep the whole container in your tank.
I am still not sure how to remove a mushroom though...any help would be appreciated? Can you just pull them off at the base?

with your problem you might want to chissel the rock off with the mushrooms you want to move. if you cut or tear off the mushrooms in your way any part you leave will grow a new mushroom. you can also try to gently peel the foot of the mushrooms off as long as none is left on the rock to grow a new one. the reason i suggest taking a bit of rock off with the mush is that you can instantly glue it anywhere else in ur tank without having to wait for it to attach to something then glueing it

I agree, I have used a small knife to dig the rock just under the foot and peel them off. Then just put in a shallow dish with small pieces of rock. you can cover the dish with netting so they dont float away.
By the way, Nice shrooms

What kind of glue does everyone use? I have tried a reef glue before and it worked horribly, I could not really attach anything with it.

How long does it need to cure outside of the water before you can put it back in the tank? Also, where do you get the glue?

I use loctite super glue Gel- buy it at walmart. It doent take long to stick. Just dry both pieces off with a paper towel

You can actually glue the mushroom on the rocks? Or do you need to have the mushroom attached to a small piece of rock ruble or sand, then glue the small rock piece onto something?

what i've done is found the rogue shroom, take him out of the water, and place him upside down on a papertowel. i let him sit there for a minute or 2, while i dry off very well a piece of rock.
once that is done, i pat-dry the foot of the shroom gently.
i apply dot(s) of crazy glue to the rock, then pick up the shroom and place him (right side up, of course) on the glue, applying very light pressure.
i then put the rock back on the paper towel for a min or 2, then place him in my tank.
the reason i put him upside down for a bit is so that the slime doesnt get onto the foot area.

Ah, ic...I will definitely give this try. I would have thought that the glue being directly on the mushroom would have hurt it or something. Thanks for all the info. Do you know of any good ways to get a mushroom to detach from a rock without chisling a piece of the rock off, etc. I have heard you can rub the foot of it with an ice cube and it will release. Anyone else heard this?

or put the shrooms on the sand bed lett it attach to a piece of sand then go to town on gluing.
