How to care for sebae anemone

I went to my LFS tonight and bought a little sebae anemone and a TP clown fish. I was just wondering how to take care of the anemone? The employee tested my water and said it was perfect. I don't have a good light for it but also the employee said that anemones can live without a good light for about 6 months and then will die. So I went ahead and got it because i am going to be getting the light really soon. Either christmas or before. My tank is a 29 gallon tank with 2 clownfish and a snail.I would also like to know what temperature the tank has to be also. And how long to acclimate it. Thanks

Yeah it's been setup since june. I don't know what it's called, sorry, all I know is it's just a regular freshwater light.

My two clownfish is already hosting it:) Is it okay that the anemone is laying on it's side? cuz that's what mine is doing

Unfortunately your LFS made a very irresponsible remark about the life expectancy of an anemone without sufficient lighting.
To answer your question, no its not good for them to lay on their side. However yours is still in the acclimation period and should be given some more time. You dont have long before your anemone will feel the effects of insufficient lighting, I would say a month at best given the type of light you currently have. Also when it does settle in, it will roam frequently, non stop until it finds the best source it can for lighting. This causes problems in our tanks because often wandering around tends to get them into trouble. Getting into places they shouldnt be, powerheads, intakes... etc.. HTH good luck.

I have a sebae under T5HO light and it is doing great. Is your sebae white? If so it is bleached and needs proper lighting. I think that the LFS store telling you that it would only live for 6 months as if that is ok is just wrong.

Mine is tan colored. I think what i'll do to get it on it's foot is, is to just get my fish net and push it up. Is that a good idea?

A true Sebae anemone is actually an LTA or Long Tentacle anemone... a 100% id can only be given with a pic. Many anemones have similar appearances. Do you see any verrucae on the underside of the disk and or foot of the anemone? If it is an LTA or Sebae then they prefer being footed in the sand bed, not on glass or LR. Although they will move to higher ground to get ample light its not their natural place.

IMO people that first get anemones tend to mess with them to get them to settle where the person wants them. I would not use a net or anything else to move this creature. Just let it be it will do what it must. But you need to get the correct lighting post haste, (quickly, now, hurry) for it to maintain it's health.

I agree with spanko. The anemone is going to move where it can get the most light. Continually messing with it to try and get it to settle where you want it will only result in its untimely demise.

I dont believe thats a sebae at all. With the pink foot and the price. As well doesn't really show any purple tips on it. Im not 100% sure but I don't believe thats a sebae.

If they sold it to you as a sebae then they mislead you. I am pretty sure it is a pink tip haitian. About $10 is all you should have paid.

When are you getting your new lights, and what kind are they? The anemone is not going to last very long without them.

well if you want to maintain a healthy sebae if thats what he is.
he will need more than just good lighting.he will also need to be spot fed.i have always used cyclopseze and mysis shrimp soaked in selcon for mine.. avoid foods like silver slides he will have to purge the bones of those which are not only gross to clean up but he will also not get all of the nutrients of the feeding.. as for sebae liking the sand they will put themselves where ever they think its comfortable.. this one is in an 18 in tall tank with 2 400w 20k mh 2 96w actinic VHO good water flow is also very helfull mine seamed to have loved the flow
also shown same anenome in 300 gal under 400w MH still on the top of the rocks(sorry pic is on the small side)
