what methods does everyone use to catch their fish out a reef tank? Do you remove all the rock, etc, or is there some other method that works well for you guys?

I throw a trigger in the tank and let it kill whatever I want to get out.. well.. not really but thats what I feel like doing.. basically you have to remove everything.. unless its a really curious fish.. then you can just put some food in a net and wait.. and wait. and wait.. but be sure to catch it on the first try.. or you will scare it and it will NEVER come back to the net. good luck... I tore down 2 tanks and caught 3 damsel's today.. so trust me.. you need the luck..

I put all the rock on one side of the tank and try to get the fish on the other side. Use two nets, it works better. Or use a transparent container, such as a glass jar, and put it near an open cave between the rock, then use a net or something and try to scare the fish into the jar. This worked twice for me. Good luck trying to catch your fish.

The kid at the LFS has a reef tank and he told me that he waits until night when his lights are out. He then turns the lights on fast and usually can catch one or two when the fish come out and dart around. Guess it's kind of like a person getting woke up fast. Says he can only do 1 or 2 at a time that way

I would catch my fish first thing in the morning. The tank lights I left off and just put the room lights on. Everyone was so dopey still that it only took a couple swoops of the net and I had filet o fish for supper :) :) Just kidding, but after tearing down my live rock and chasing one lousy damsel around the first time I had to catch a fish I had to find something easier.

cut the top off a plasic bottel and put the bottel in th tank and put live rock near entance and leave it there over night then try to scare the fish into the bottel or your you can see what piece of live rock the fish sleeps in and lift it out when hes sleeping

Some people maybe think I'm strange but I've found luck with a tupperware bowl. I used to do this when I had Piranha to transfer them to a bigger tank, when there near the water surface and scoop em right up. usually them swin right in.
