You just have to get lucky, keep returning the wrong ones until you get what you want. (Sort of like Hollywood marriages.)

I had a fish I wanted to evict and I had trouble catching it for about 2 weeks. Then it hit me, go hunting at night. After all of the fish are down for the night go with a flash light and a net. It took me all of about 5 seconds to catch the rejected fish.

I have yet to need to net a sw fish except in a bucket, but..
With fw planted tanks, netting fish is also difficult. Here is what I do.
If possible, use a tank divider. I made one myself:

Then drain some of the water. (good time for a water change!)
So now you have only part of the tank to deal with, using the divider, and less depth for the fish to escape with.
Now you need two nets - I prefer one big one and one more maneuverable one. Use the smaller to coax the fish towards the big net.

Bill, what does your aquascape look like? Does the angel come up when you feed him? If the trap isn't working, move a portion of the rock off to the side. This will leave an open area. Pick up a tank divider or make one out of egg crate. Feed the tank in the open area for a few days until the angel is used to it. When the angel swims over there at feeding time, drop the divider and remove the fish.

Leave the hood to your tank open. After the lights have gone out sneak quietly into the aquarium room with a net and a flashlight. Shine the flashlight right in the fish's eyes and then grab him with the net. Works best with tangs, but some other fish will be stunned by the light long enough for you to swipe them also.

Only down side to this method IMO is you have to make sure no one can see into your home or you will hear “ you with the flash light and net put them DOWN now” this is the police
