how to clean pumps

I am starting to clean my pumps every week.....any tips other than to disassemble and clean then run in fresh water

Soak them in some white vinegar for 15-30 min, then run them in the vinegar for 5-10 min to blow all the loose stuff out. Rinse them off and reinstall. You can disassemble them and use a q tip to wipe off the gunk also.
