unfortunately i seriously doubt my ballasts will be on the site. they are industrial light ballasts
Industrial lighting ballasts are almost always probe start magnetic ballasts.
They are also likely 400w. Going forward I'll make that assumption. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Ballast and lamp manufacturers cooperate with ANSI standards to assign codes to lamps and ballasts. A 400w, probe start, magnetic ballast carries ANSI code M59.
ANY lamp that carries ANSI code M59 will work with your ballast.
Okay so that's the super simple way it works. Unfortunately, things are not always that simple. Lamp manufacturers, while they usually have an ANSI code, don't make it easily available all the time, and/or vendors don't tend to list it in the specs... which is crazy because it would sure make things less confusing!
Lamps made by Hamilton, CoralVUE, Venture, XM, and Coralife are almost always probe start lamps. So if they are 400w, they'll be M59. If your ballast is a different wattage, the approprate wattage from these manufacturers will still work. (If it's 250w, the lamp and ballast would be M58, for example).
Lamps from Radium, Iwasaki, Ushio, and other european manufacturers are almost always pulse lamps that require pulse ballasts. For 400w, the pulse ballast code would be M135 (if you care to know).
Hope that helps!
