Here's the Zoanthid fragging thread you've been asking for
A little note to any other reefers who will be trying this themselves- Zoanthids are toxic, read up on them before handling them- make sure you do this in an area that can be sterilized, do not use any containers that will be used for food in the future and take proper precautions to Protect yourself before you begin.

Oh, I forgot to mention that you MUST use one of those goverment issue hammers- $15,000 I think, that's where it gets a little pricey.
Okay, for the next part of this little lesson:

I usually package frags in bags with water, just like when the LFS receives them -but I have read that they do very well packaged in wet newspaper or paper towels.
Let's find out, BRONCO300 I just mailed them to you- Let us know which open first, the ones in the bag or the ones in wet paper towels.
p.s. They opened in my tank within a couple hours of fragging them-so that should not affect the results.

See you just have to come up with a catchy little name and say that they are SPECIALLY DESIGNED for reefkeeping
- I bet you can have 'em in all the stores by the end of the year

hahaha, i wondered what was goin on with the papertowel bag,lol....i'll see which one comes out first. thanks a ton for the thread!!!!
now my questions:
you said you flipped your rock over when you chiselbreak apart....arent you worried about smashing the zoos on the other side?what if there are no "pre-breaks"
what would you think of using a small scroll saw....if there are blades that can cut rock..
i look at one of my zoos rock, and it didnt look like it had a mat, it looks like just polyps on the rock, and the polyps are like 1/4-1/2in long.
Excellent job!!

No problem,
I don't think I'd try the scroll saw -it could get pretty messy, and I'm not sure if there is a blade that can be used on rock (I break the wood ones easily enough)
On the ones without matting, still check the rock on underside-alot of them grow all the way around the rock if they run out of room- any loose pcs. can be removed by hand.
The hammer & chisel method is just fast & easy -I've had no reason to try other methods because it always works
- they don't even spend much time out of the water and they almost always open up very quickly after being put back in the tank.
Just aim the tip of the chisel between
the stocks of the polyps- (if you break a polyp open they can squirt you)

good to know -- not that I am anywhere near being able to frag for friends, but it is still useful. Thanks and remember, you are making the rest of us jealous.

not even alittle. IMO that falls under the lines of being WAY to percausions. IF that was ot happen the amounts would be so small that it would in no way effect the tank. I also rinse the frags in a bowl of tank water before going back into the tank. i only do this because the rock when it broken up it gets really chalky so i like to clean it off so it does not haze my tank
with that said i personaly dont think it would be a problem even if there was more of it.
i would be willing to guess that i have 3 or for razor blades, a few screws and even a nickle that have fallen in my tank oevr the years behind the rocks that i can not get out.
Never had a problem

That's good to know since my older daughter recently hosted a party and a few beer caps landed in there. I have been waiting for a spike of something...

haha sounds like i want to come to your next party lol
BTW dont get me wrong. if you can see them and get them out easy enough then of course do so. I just mean that i dont think its important enough to tear apart a reef for
