How to keep razor blades from rusting

I used a razor blade (the flat window scraper kind) to clean my tank for the first time a few weeks ago and it worked great. I went to get it again to clean the glass during a water change but it was competely rusted
. I wouldnt even push it up out of the case. So how do you keep them from rusting? Do they have to be stainless steel?

rinse it with freshwater towel it dry, then throw it in a tupperware dish with dry white rice to store it. the rice wil;l absorb the extra moisture and slow the rusting down ALOT. thats how I store my fragging tools.

Go to Home Depot, Lowes, Whatever hardware store you have and buy a pack of blades. You get 100 for about $11. HD even had some packs today where you could get 200 for $12.

or buy stainless steel. ReefkprZ gave the right way to clean and store them though. The rice is an excellent idea too and if you are hungry some late evening after chugging down a 6-pack or so you will have something crunchy and healthy, that is as long as you remove the razor blades prior too.

Though I do not believe there is an Attorny General's warning listed on razor blade packs, they should not be consumed with rice, but that is JMO.

I just buy the disposable kind. Actually my wife uses them at work every day. I get her to steal me a few a month.

oh I forgot, if you mean the handle unit buy the plastic ones with the flip blade not the metal ones with the retractable blade, they trap moisture like a sonofagun and will end up rusting out no matter what you do as they are really cheap metal. buy razors by the 100s and swap out blades when they get rusty. rinsing and drying can save them for a couple uses but not indefinately.
