All of us continue to search for causes and solutions to save our seahorses when they get sick. Some of us have been successful, some of us have not.
For the past 2 months I've been caring for a Koran Angel with hole-in-the-head; the owners wanted someone to take the sick fish off their hands. I knew exactly what meds to use, and what causes this ailment. I purchase the meds and changed the fish's diet. Today the Angel is 95% healed. Only a few small dots remain....these few spots may remain as scars, but I never once doubted that the fish would recover.
After keeping seahorses for almost four years I can certainly select or describe what a healthy seahorse should look and act like. I think most if not all of us could list, describe, diagnose just about anything that has to do with keeping seahorses. What I do not like is that I know that if my seahorse gets sick there is little chance of survival. Treatments that have worked for some of us do not work for others.
What I would like to do is have everyone post their experiences and treatments they used when their seahorses were ill. I'm looking for any consistency in our experiences, that may help show which meds/treatments work best. Here are a few questions, please add more:
1.) How long did you have your horses before it got ill?
2.) Did you put it into a QT before introducing it to the DT?
3.) What/ if any signs did you seahorse show it was ill?
4.) What made your seahorse sick? Parasite?...Bacteria?
a. Ectoparasites (External Parasites)
b. Endoparasites (Internal Parasides)
c. Exophthalmia ("Pop Eye")
d. External Gas Bubble Disease
e. Flesh-Erosion Disease
f. Internal Gas Bubble Disease
g. Pouch Emphysema
h. Snout Rot
5.) What meds did you use to treat your seahorse?
6.) If the treatment was successful, what meds or method
did you use?
7.) What would you do differently for your next seahorse?
