You obviously need to pull chaeto out of a fuge to keep it from taking over. I generally pull a little once a week. Does anyone know the best way to pull some w/out grabbing up pods with it???? right now all I do is run my hand through the area before I pull it.

I usually just shake it in the water after I rip out the clump I want to remove, your never going to save them all, but it gives them a chance to run for cover.

you can pull out the cheato and take some tank water and dilute it to a salinty of about .017, shake the cheato in the water and the pods will jump off into the water then once your done you can pour them back in.

I pulled some clumps of chaeto out and dipped it in freshwater before throwing it out. Well when I looked into the freshwater, their were loads of pods. I then dumped the water back into the tank. My question is will the momentary dip into the freshwater have killed the pods??

When i clean my protein skimmer collection cup there are tons of pods that stick on the edges of the cup, the fresh water seems to shock them and kills them completely, maybe the same might happen for you as well. Why didnt you shake the chaeto in SW?

I have taken a rock out of the tank and rinsed it under the tap since I wasn't going to keep it. (It was supposed to be used as a frag rock.) When I did it and was ready to put it down to dry I could see pods running on it. I put the rock back in a bowl with tank water and they were just as happy as can be! They stayed in the bowl for a couple of days and then I put them back in the tank.

I used to just shake the chaeto in the 1.024 sal. tank water, but hardly any would fall off. What would be a good drop in Salinity I could use, so they would fall off, but not die. I think the previous person stated 1.017.
