How to raise the water level? Also shrooms with a wet/dry

On my 75g with a wet dry the water level is a bit low in the tank. There is about 1/2 in gap from the bottom of the top rim to the water line.I added a little more water to the wet/dry but no luck. Is it a question of raising the overflow box higher? No, the tank does not leak, thank heavens.
Also is anyone keeping shrooms using a wet/dry filter system.I know the recommended route is using sumps and refugiums, but I'm interested in know if anyone is succesfully keeping these creatures with a w/d.A guy at the lfs says the w/d causes too much oxygen in the water. Also the crashing down of the water makes too many bubbles. I have no bubbles returning in my display tank.An wouldn't get the same crashing water into a sump or refugium? You would still need the overflow box, yes? An as long as you remove the bubbles before they enter the display tank it should not present a problem. The fellow at the store seemed knowledgeable and was more interested in me not having a problem than in selling his livestock just to make money.
Although my tank is currently fowlr in the future I would like to add a few shrooms for diversity.Hence my first question.
I did buy a beautiful 2.5 in cleaner shrimp from him and may get a nice small yellow tang later this week. TIA

I'll answer your first question. If you added water and there is no leak, you didn't add enough. It doesn't matter "where" you add the water. Water seeks a level, so you need to add more fresh water, in a nutshell.
If the level is low in your tank, and the sump is below your tank, the skimmer (overflow) box is too low, or some other route for water to leave should be obvious. Good luck.

The water you add will only add to the level of the wet dry. You have to raise the overflow in the main tank to raise the water level in the main tank. Now, that will lower the water level in the wet/dry so you might want to add some water (salt water) to account for that.
Might I suggest that the person you talked to about shrooms doesn't know what they are talking about? Having a wet/dry doesn't prevent you from having any kind of coral. The things that determine the coral you can have are your water quality, lighting, and flow mostly. Shrooms are about as easy as corals get. So if you have the lights, good water quality and at least 10X turnover, then get some shrooms. I suggest you don't get much more (if any) advice from that person in the future.

That's something that tripped me out at first . . . changes in water level showed up in the sump, not in the tank. Level in the tank would remain constant, the level in the sump would change due to evaporation, addition/subtraction of something in the tank, topping off etc.
