whenever i try to take pics under actinic the whole picture is just tinted blue, no color... just blue. even my super orange rics which glow bright orange don't come out. is there something im missing to taking pictures under actinics?
heres my usual setup:
cannon DSC-80 7MP
no flash
macro setting
ive also tried iso100 and a few other settings, no luck.

I'm taking mine with basically the same settings and standard lens. My pics were horrible with my old camera and as soon as I bought my new one last week the pics have been completely different.

nope. im using a cannon DSC-W80 and cant set the shutter speed low enough to warrant using either. ill take a drive over to my dads house this weekend and talk him into letting me use borrow his nikon and tripod... he has the D80 i believe.
is everyone else using digital? would my pictures come out better color wise with a 35mm and long exposure?
my cannon is taking great pictures under daylights...

but under actinic it seems very washed as compared to other pictures ive seen. is it just me? i guess this one is a bad example picture because that mushroom is blue/green... lol

mkzimms I'd say its not just you, but its pretty normal; the blue color of the actinics or moonlights is going to wash some of the color of your corals naturally. I've seen shots done by professionals and semiprofessionals who really know what they are doing that are better, but for the average amauter photographer ~ I'd say thats pretty normal. Here are a few of mine taken with a Canon Rebel XT just to give you an idea. The last shot is a blue/orange ricordia.
