IMO, 2 is pushing it, (i wouldn't)but it may possibly be done, if you are diligent
just be sure to get a smaller one than the one you have, and make sure it is not the larger one in the tank at the lfs
oh, and someone recently corected me and my wife, they do not start as males, but as juveniles which are sexually immature and then they develope either the male or female based on dominancy(female larger), and then if the female dies, the dominant male will take dominancy and become female, then the next dominant sexually immature will then become the male, and so on (normally in home aquariums, there's only 1 or 2 so it stops there, but this is how it is supposed to work)
