they dont need feeding, unless its the non-photo one like sun coral. corals need lights to surivive. again, depends on which corals u r talking about.

so you dont need to feed coral? and im talking about softies...
then whats the purpose of phytoplankton and cyclopeeze?

Some will eat phyto, cyclo, and other small foods. but if the coral is photosynthetic, you don't really need to feed it.
What types of clams are you talking about? Tridacnid clams, like croceas, maximas, and squmosas, only need to be fed when small, like under 2 - 2.5 inches. They also contain symbiotic photosynthetic algae and will be fine under strong lighting.
Steer clear of things like flame scallops, as they are difficult to keep alive in aquariums.

They're different types of clams. Derasa clams are the hardiest and require the least amount of light. After that comes the squamosa. The maxima and crocea need really strong light and perfect water conditions.

Yes, and the maxima and crocea reach the smallest max size as well, coming it at around 6" I think (I could be wrong, not 100% sure). Only small ones need to be fed phyto (small meaning under 3" or so IMO).

Maximas and croceas get at least 8-9 inches long. Derasas and squamosas can get over 15-20 inches. Gigas are the largest, and can get over 36" long. It will take them several years to get truely large, but many of these species can out grow a small aquarium in just a couple of years.

Everything I read says Croceas only get a maximum of 6".

lol In that case I'm gonna have problems in the future. Mine is about 4" and is attached to a rock near the top of the tank and the rock is not gonna be big enough for an 8" clam. But hopefully by the time it gets that big, I would have upgraded to a 6' long tank.
