How would one look here?

I probably shouldn't even try one at all yet since the nano tank is so new but you know how it is - I'm itching to add something to the tank and will probably break down and end up buying something sooner rather than later. I also realize that not much will grow in this tank with weak 50/50 lighting but that probably won't stop me from wasting my money either. Is there something/anything I can put in this new nano tank that might stand a chance of surviving? I have this piece of tonga rock that has a broken "stem" and I think it might look neat to glue something little on there. On the other hand a part of me tells me it would look stupid to have something that high up fluttering in the current. And then the other part of me (schizo) says that maybe closer to the light and closer to the current would give something a BETTER chance of living. Your thoughts? I've circled the "branch" that I was thinking of putting something on - let me know if that would look cool or stupid. I'm a newbie - I need input!

some shrooms will do well in just about any condition..i had some hitchiker shrooms survive the cycle and after 5 months, they spread all over the rock it came on..but i strongly recommend taking ur time..a nice saltwater tank doesn't happen overnight..

Yes, I was having a heavy "brown day" when I took that photo - as a matter of fact I specifically took that photo to post on here and ask what the heck was up with all the BROWN all of a sudden. Now 5 days later it's looking a lot better and it seems the brown is starting to turn pink/purple, at least some of it. There's very little of it on the glass or on the sand so I imagine this is part of a normal cycle?
Thanks for the suggestions. I'll head for a LFS after work but I'm sure they are going to ---- me on cost. I wish shipping and handling wasn't so steep to order live stuff on line and if I had a big tank I could justify it with a large order but for a nano it's hard to place a big order.
Thanks for the reply!
P.S. Not sure what got censored in the above, I didn't use anything in the least bit offensive! I think I said G O U G E. Is that a no-no?

Brown is diatoms a normal part of cycling. How are the readings on ammonia, nitrite and nitrate? Are they showing a 0,0 and some reading under 10? If so it is time for some snails. i agree with trying a mushroom if you can't wait, although you should wait.

Glad the diatoms are "normal" and part of the process. Always nice to be on track, even if it's temporarily ugly. I have snails in there - I think that may be why I don't have a problem with the diatoms on the glass or on the sand. I'll probably end up waiting on the mushrooms if for no other reason than I will get discouraged by the price. If I knew I had the right environment for one I wouldn't mind but if it's going to be a gamble I need to be reasonable. (that would be a first!)
King, we're practically neighbors - I'm in Meriden!

My 2-3 time a week "window shopping" trips are done at All Pets Club in Wallingford. I also go to Exotic Fish and Coral in Milford - really quality stuff and staff, and then I visited the one in Southington on Queen Street..... can't remember the name right now. Nice place but he was really low on stock the day I went in. He says things will pick up now that summer is over.
Do you have any favorite LFS's?
