HT water for main tank water change????

This is a question I can't find an answer to:
Can I setup a hospital tank (10 gal), get it going (cycle, filter seeded, etc) then when I change water in my main tank use say 7 gal from the HT and then make new HT water?
Will that destroy the rest of the water in the HT? (will the LS and LR keep the water ok with the residual water left in it and new water added?)
What I am trying to achieve is having a HT that has water at the right temp etc that will not have anything but LS and LR in it, ready for a sick fish but useful in the meantime!

Yes, you can do that for the most part, but water quality in the hospital should be maintained, so you will want to replinish old water with new at least 1x a month. But you can use your tank water for the change outs most of the time.

Beth, I want to make sure I explained my thought correctly...establishing both tanks well, then when I do a water change in the 75, using 7 gal or whatever a good # is, then mixing up new salt water with R/o and puting that in the HT. From then on that process would repeat, is that ok? Thank you for the reply, I just want to do what is best!! Have a good day!

Oh, yeah. You really don't need to do a water change in the hospital until just before you are ready to put in fish. Do a water change with new water. When there is no fish in the tank, just do top offs for evaporation. However, you need need to feed a tank that does not have fish in it to keep the biofilter going. A bit of frozen fish food every so often, or a small piece of shrimp.
