Huma Huma is INSANE!

I had to do something today I wasn’t sure I wanted to. My Huma Huma has been in the QT tank since last Tues. He was very timid and coming along nicely. He wasn’t showing any signs of stress, ich or other. Unfortunately I thought the water from my main tank would suffice to establish a QT tank for a couple of weeks. I watched the levels over the last 6 days and they kept coming up. On Fri they started to run the Nitrites up. PH was a little down and Ammonia was still 0. I did a water change and went home. Came back Sat and the levels were higher and the ammonia was coming up. The Nitrites now were .40PPM. So another water change I did. I checked it, very little drop. So I did another (1/3) water change. Better so I left. This morning I went in to check and they were ALL through the roof. So I did a 50% water change. Still little change. I am not sure what the hell is going on. I suspect that the new CC is doing this.
I know the Picasso couldn’t live in that so I checked the salinity, temp and PH were about the same as the little tank. So close I couldn’t tell a difference. The only difference was the Nitrates, Nitrites and Ammonia are almost all 0 in my display tank. So I netted him and put him in the main tank.
As timid as he was in the QT tank I thought this would be a touch and go thing. Nope, he took off for the rocks. 30 seconds later he comes out and sees the Hippo, Bam! Knocks him one. He then rolls over to the Puffer who is like half his size and hits him for no reason. Then he sees my Epaulette Shark. Minding his own business and hits him. He goes after the sail-fin, the surgeon and the powder blue. Good lord he attacks everyone. Here he was this shy timid cute Huma Huma in the QT tank. Put him in with his peers and it was on!!! The only one he didn’t take a swipe at was my Lunar Wrasse.
I am hoping that since he found the shell my last Huma Huma lived in that he will relax a little bit. He is terrorizing my Hippo and taking swipes at my shark on a regular basis. My last Huma Huma was NOTING like this. Does anyone know if he will calm down a bit? Has anyone seen this situation and if so how did it turn out. Before in the QT you would walk by and he would start the “ I am a rock” and was in them! Now he is insane, not hiding and picking on everyone for no reason.

Even though he came from the LFS no way was I going to put him in my tank cold turkey. I hate ICH. I am not certain that 6 days was enough, but give the circumstances I didn't feel like I had a choice.
At the end of the day I can't have him taking out the rest of my tank. Especially my shark

Ahhh that stinks porsch. I find with triggers it can be hit or miss with aggression. Many moons ago I had a Niger trigger. Was 1 of the smallest ones in the tank but was mean as heck. My current Niger is one of the bigger ones in the tank and is a peacegul as a guppie. He's been bullied by my 3" gramma lol.

He seems a little better today. Although the sail fin is stressed, I suspect from the presence of the new arrival. I think the sail fin should be on Protaz any way. Talk about a moody fish!

Things are getting much better. Mr Huma Huma has calmed down a lot. Feeding time is a frenzy and he acts as if it might be his last meal but he is much better. He spends most of the day rearranging the coil for me. Every day there is a new pile for me. A plant or two might be on the opposite end of the tank too.

Sorry for this opinion but I think you're going to lose your shark if you keep the huma huma. It will only get more aggressive as it gets larger and more territorial in your tank. All it takes is one bite and your shark can get an infection...
Also, not to be negative because I really like your tank... but... I'd change your crushed coral to sand... it's softer on the shark's sensitive belly. :happyfish

I am learning, quickly I might add. I am planning on doing the swap very soon. This is not something I even heard about until I came here.
Is it truly a swap? No need to worry, pull the water place the fish in tubs, swap coral for LS and water back in? All will be ok??

I had to pull my huma about 7-8" or so and he was in the qt with a snaper 2" and for 2 weeks he say under my fake coral, and ate very little. When it came time to go back in he went crazy like yous did. I can only think it is like a dog, when caged up they cant move enough to go crazy, but put them in the yard they run to every person and dog. i just move my 150 to my house and the LFS has over a grand in my fish and of them all I said you cant sell the humma, and the mappa only if you need the room or some one will pay 4 bills. But my humma is one of my most beloved fish of all i have ever owned. You might want to look at your fish sizes and types and find out what you can keep.

Jcrim,
Off the subject question. What do you feed your shark? Better question would be what do you suggest?
Thanks,
Stephen

Basically anything meaty. Mine regularly eats silversides, squid, krill, shrimp, shark formula, formula one... those are the regulars.
Oh and I forgot, damsels and cleaner wrasses.

I have been feeding him med sized whole shrimp. Depending on the day he will eat 1-3 of them. I use to feed him Formula one but he only eats the shrimp. If this good enough for him? Normally anything else he couldn't get because the tank is so active.

Get a feeding stick from the lfs so you can spot feed him whatever you want. The staples of mine's diet is silversides, squid and krill. He gets one of those every day.

No problem... silversides is like saltwater minnows. They come frozen in a flat pack. They are easy to feed because they are long and slender.
BTW is the huma still in the shark tank?

You get these from the grocery store or LFS?
At the moment yes. He has finally left everyone alone. My S. Tang is three times his size and has put him in his place. He seems to be humbled. I am in progress to design and build another tank so I have no where to put him other than in a 15QT.
Thanks again.
