Huma, Huma

I'm getting very fustrated with my Huma Huma Trigger, he is such an aggressive eater, I think it would eat everything i throw in the tank, if I put two cubes of mysis shrimp in the tank he'll go for one, tear it up and then go for the other, before any of the other fish get a chance to nibble, he even takes food straight from my puffers mouth, I notice that my bi-color parrot likes prawn so everytime i try to feed it that damn trigger zooms by and snatches it, i had to hold him in the net while the other fish eat and then release him, what should i do, i can't catch him anymore he hides under the rock when he sees the net and it takes long to catch him at that, anyone have the same problem

sell him or donate him to your nearest aquarium. fish are like humans. sometimes you get nice ones sometimes mean ones. even the most peaceful fish (don't know what it is) can get mean.

Do you de-thaw your food or throw in frozen cubes? I would de-thaw it in a little tank water, and when you feed drop it in front of a power head or return line to disperse it around the tank. 2 cubes of food at a feeding is wayyy to much unless your tank is heavily stocked. Our Hummu is an aggressive eater, second to the big Niger, but everyone else gets there share. Heres our eating machine.

Mine used to be like that. I started giving him a whole silverside or meaty raw shrimp in the shell while feeding the other fish at the other end of the tank. He liked that much more than the cubes or pellets and it takes him much longer to eat. He now expects at least a small tidbit at feeding time. He is pretty fat, I think I probably overfeed him, but he is much less aggressive now.

thaw the food before feeding it to the them this will at least slow him down.as another stated tos in a silverside to keep him occupied.I sent mine back to the LFS before he went postal on my fish .other than being a pig he was ok with them but if my hands went in the tank at all he went after me.that fish got thumped alot lol.i took mine out when i upgraded my 90 to a 100 gal had everything out of the tank before i could catch him in 3 inches of water.personally I wont buy another trigger of any type again.my niger was just as bad in my 125 till my lion finally got tired of him harrassing him.

Take the cubes of mysis shrimp and place them in some aqurium water in a glass to thaw. Dump it in the tank and the smaller thawed pieces will be available to all.

So unleashed your Lion killed your Niger? Depends on the individual with triggerfish. Our Hummu rubs himself on my hand when they're in the tank. The two I have to watch out for is our nippy Toby, and our 3-stripe with the little big man syndrome.

yep the lion stung the trigger the trigger kept nipping at his fins lion got tired of it and retaliated.I didnt know what happened to him at first he just stopped swimming all of the sudden .but i had noticed him nipping my lions frilly fins to the point they are no longer long and flowing.i found my niger laying on the bottom of the tank not less than 15 min after feeding parelized my lunear wrasse started picking at it so I placed him into a med tub where it look less than an hr for him to die .after he was dead I looked very closely at him and noticed a large pinhole surrounded by alot of red and swelling of the rib area.he was def stung.
