Agreed. I bought mine one year ago at 2 inches, and i'd say he is about 3 inches right now. They accept feedings all the time, however. I feed mine 1-2x per day.

Growth rates on captive fish are very unpredictable IMO a lot depends on food variety particular tank size and of course the individual fish

Just thought if overall health and care for our fish is to do regular water changes it may have something to do with it also.Say, guy A does WC every week 25%,and guy B does them every 6th week at 15%......So i don't ,just a thought i had..

Do you know where the humu came from? (friend/lfs/online) And how long they had him? I've had on more then a few occasions, fish, when first added to a larger tank, have a growth spurt and put an inch or so in about a month, and then level off to a traditional growth rate. Generally happened with tangs for me. I haven't heard of this happening with a humu, but if he's been at the LFS for a month or two, and been contained to a tiny holding tank, I would just chalk it up to him, playing 'catch-up' so to speak, and really just 'filling in' more then anything.

i got him from the LFS i go to regularly, they had him for about 2 weeks before i picked him up so could that be possible in the short amount of time?
i always thought they grew slowly, it shocked me when i realized how much it grew lol
