I plan to order 4 of the Hydor Koralia Mag 5's for my 125 DT.
I see they cost about $115-$120.
Is this a good price? or do they come even cheaper?
Also are they the end all be all to water circulation? or are they simply a bang for the buck power head?
And is there a chance they can hurt my livestock?

I use them in all my tanks now but the bio-cubes I love them On the Bay I can get them for the best deal but you have to hunt for them.

IMO good bang for the buck powerhead. I have replaced mine with a Vortech mp10 in my 29 gallon biocube. The thing is incredible!!! (pricey though)
Have a look at their line and the different settings on the pumps here

a lot of people live by the tunze units as well, but once again they are pricey even compared to the koralias. I use the koralias in my 210.

I have two of the #4's in my 90 gal and that is more than enough circulation. The 4's are really a bargain right now for $38.99 from the Dr.'s

thanks everyone. found a seller that does 2xHydor 4'sf or $81!!
not too shabby.
According to the description having them on wave makers voids the warranty.
Now i already went and got a really nice Red Sea wave maker for $50 on CL, its a $200 wave maker so i really don't want to let it go to waste.
or is it something I dont need? or is it worth hanging onto?

Henry told me the Koralia wont work well at all with Wave makers. i was gonna do the same thing but they will break. something like that. the wave makers are for maxi-jets.
if you wanna use them as a wave maker you have to get the koralia wave maker

It's the stop and start action that are tough on them for wave makers. I've had a couple of the smaller Koralia's... I think they were 3's. I wasn't at all impressed with them and one sits in my limewater bucket stirring limewater which is going to get replaced by a maxi-jet.
I have one Tunze's 6060 I bought from a reefer for 80 bucks used hardly at all because it was too much in his 75g.
The Tunze in my 77g frag tank is just simply awesome. It's like it was made for my shallow 3 x 4 foot frag tank and blows current to one side, hits it, makes a 90 degree turn to the next and etc and etc. Corals love it, my 2 clown fish and sailfin love to surf in the current and stirs all the gunk to a small pile in the middle (bare bottom) and I just suck out that little bit.
I want Tunze's for my main tank now but hard to find a rocking deal on them. The 5 maxi jets I have in my main tank are lack luster but were still better than the koralia's IMO.
Maybe if you go big enough with the Koralia's but my first impression was I wasn't impressed.

could be the size of your tank. the principle behind korelas are the open top design. rather than sending a stream of water in one focused direction, it has a wide dispersal that puses in ALL directions. this casues the water molicules to get excited agaisnt one another in many places at once.
consider throwing a stone in a pond. no throw two clsoe together and see the difference in excitement as more thanone ripple hits each other. now imagine throwing dozens of stones over an area.....you will get an un predictable and diverse pattern all at once.
with korelas its the same principle, the water moves along an infinitely diverse path this way.
thanks for your input. ill look into a tunze as well. sounds like just what i want inside my fuge to make my chaeto ball start spinning!

I know how they work... Tunze's operate on the same principle... I've seen both in operation and was just not impressed with my koralias so I took them out.
Oh.. I wanted to comment on "l33t" --- are you a WoW player? lol

No, I play real mmo's that don't cater to the "Give it to me now without any effort" WOW mentality.
Something about camping a mob that spawns randomly once every 72hours, competing with 200 other players to claim it, then having 18 other dedicated people also willing to help you bring down something that cant be done with any less, using absolute perfection and precision in coordinating, all to get a 2-5% chance that it will drop what you came for....otherwise you sit have to wait another 72 hours for the same chance, really appeals to me.
What can I say, I'm a hard core gamer and I play it for the enriching reward of satisfaction you get from something more challenging. Ya, if it isn't obvious...i really despise that candy land joke of an MMO.
Don't get me wrong, I give mad props to them for 11mil subscriptions, FANTASTIC marketing and really hooking in people. But its not because its a pimp mmo, it just caters to the vast majority of people who don't know what its like to put the game on the hardest setting possible. I stopped doing that when I was in grade school, but the majority doesnt.
Ya, I play hard core games like that. Not nooby lolwow.
But if you do, it is what it is, great entertainment, and youve definitely gotten your moneys worth.

lol.... I do play, but I can't commit to it to do any serious raids (ie job/family/tanks/etc) but I truly do enjoy gaming and playing my one WoW toon.. not 10 like others. There was a 3 month period where we worked very little in Vegas (and tried to save money) without our families and played a ton of WoW... just sucked the others were leveling.
I do like WoW where you don't have to be serious to get some rewards so yeah devils advocate there :p

its good cheap entertainment. $10 a month or whatever to be entertained all day every day...or go rent movies, buy video games, DVDs, theaters, dinner, you name it for hundreds more. I see wow(or any mmo) as a great money saver!
