Hello everyone, well i would like to hear your experiences and thoughts on which one is better. I will be placing a order in the next few days and wanted to get some cirrculation going in my 120. I already have a few maxi jets but don't think it's enough flow in the tank. I want to know which one to purchase, the koralia or the sureflow kit. I would also like to add that I will be keeping SPS corals.

wave2k will blow both of those out of the water but im voting on maxi get just because of there good reputation

I have used both.I like the koralia better.Only because you can point it in almost any way you want. And the magnet right through the glass. No suction cups to mess with. But the price is higher. So it is a matter of what you want to spend.

OK, so just post which wavemaker/pump is the best and explain why... I'm looking to get something, the vortechs are kinda pricey but look amazing! I've heard that the wave2k is a waste of $ and that the belt snaps to the motor.

Ive got three wave2k's and havent had a problem yet. they dont work like the pumps though. they work off of a push and pull system creating a very caotic wave motion. my lfs is using one of mine right now and loves it. just my .02

The VorTech uses the most advanced motor technology available, allowing the water flow rate to be completely controllable. Operating on tanks between 20 and 500 gallons and producing between 100 and 3,000 gallons per hour of flow, the VorTech is the most versatile flow product on the market. The VorTech is designed to operate on gap thickness from 1/8" to 3/4".
if anything i would just save up for that seeing that you can controll the flow you wont be stuck with something with a limited flow or too much flow. it is expensive but you'll be happy with it. it says that they can all be synced
Wireless Wave Driver
The Wireless Wave Driver allows effectively infinite wave control possibilities by wirelessly linking multiple VorTech pumps together. The pumps communicate with one-another through EcoTech Marine’s proprietary Triton Protocol. Each pump must have Wireless Wave Driver in order to take full advantage of the controllability of this device.
Wave Modes
Reef Crest Random Mode- Set the pump to the maximum desired speed and the VorTech Wireless Wave Driver automatically randomizes the flow throughout your tank. The pump will rapidly vary from one speed to another to simulate the high-energy conditions of a natural reef crest environment.
Lagoon Random Mode- Set the pump to the maximum desired speed and the VorTech Wireless Wave Driver automatically randomizes the flow throughout your tank. The pump will vary slowly from one speed to another to simulate a calmer, lagoon reef environment.
Pulse Mode-When entered into pulse mode, you will be able to pulse your VorTech pump at various frequencies to create standing surface and sub-surface waves within your aquarium. You can adjust both the maximum pulse speed and frequency. The generation of surface waves within your aquarium is possible through Pulse Mode.
Sync Mode- When entered into Sync Mode, your VorTech will automatically sync with the other pumps in your aquarium. Sync Mode can be used to sync in either random modes or in pulse mode. When syncing two pumps in Pulse Mode, the pumps can be placed on the same side of the aquarium to create large standing waves in your tank.
Anti-Sync Mode- When entered into Anti-Sync Mode, pumps will pulse in an inverse timing cycle to a master pump. Every time the master pump is at the maximum speed of cycle, the pumps entered into Anti-Sync Mode will be at the minimum speed of the cycle, and vice-versa. Place these pumps on the opposite side of the tank as a master pump to create tidal currents within your aquarium.
Feed Mode
With the touch of a button, the VorTech enters into feed mode and all pumps shut down for 10 minutes to allow you to feed your aquarium.
Battery Backup Mode
The Wireless Wave Driver can also be used with the battery backup accessory

Thanks very much for the atricle. Have you had any personal experience with the Vortech? Does it run off of a electric outlet? Or a battery? I think I might buy it.

Also, does it come with just one pump?? Or does it come with a few to put around the tank. Becuase from what I'm thinking is that it only comes with one...for the price I would think that there would be a few pumps included.

i dont have first hand experience with it, but from what i see on other forums people love it. theres only one pump but you can turn up the gph or lower it. thats the only drawback, the price, but many people love it and some use it as the only powerhead in the tank. im considering these for my 125 in the future
EcoTech Marine has created a new benchmark for wave-like flow by taking a direct route to what we all desire as reef aquarium hobbyists; we wanted high flow, low heat, easy, efficient and controllable technology. Now we have it.
Bracketless Design
The VorTech minimizes the intrusion of equipment in your tank by using a patent pending bracketless design; this allows the motor to be on the outside of the aquarium and uses a magnetic field to transfer torque through the aquarium wall to the propeller located in the water.
No Heat Transfer - No Heat added to the water
Due to the use of high intensity metal halide lighting, inefficient return pumps, and powerheads, many aquarists must resort to expensive equipment or loud fans to keep their water temperature stable. The VorTech induces very little heat into the aquarium because of EcoTech Marine`s patent pending magnetically coupled design which transfers motion through the glass, but not heat.
Controllable
The VorTech uses the most advanced motor technology available, allowing the water flow rate to be completely controllable. Operating on tanks between 20 and 500 gallons and producing between 100 and 3,000 gallons per hour of flow, the VorTech is the most versatile flow product on the market. The VorTech is designed to operate on gap thickness from 1/8" to 3/4".
No AC Current - No AC electricity in the aquarium water
The VorTech is safer than existing products because there is no dangerous AC electricity brought into the aquarium. This keeps your fish and corals happy and healthy, while minimizing your own risk of electrocution.
Run-Safe Design
The VorTech is designed to be the safest and most reliable product on the market:
Over-current protection - if the propeller becomes jammed, our microcontroller will sense the problem and shut the motor down to prevent overheating.
Energy Savings
The VorTech moves more water within your aquarium than conventional powerheads, plus you save money by not having to invest in and run a costly chiller.
Low Maintenance
The VorTech is virtually maintenance free. Classic powerheads use an impeller attached to a magnet assembly which needs to be cleaned every few months. The VorTech need only be serviced minimally to replace a simple and economical bearing.
Battery Backup Accessory
An IceCap, Inc. battery backup powers the EcoTech Marine VorTech Propeller Pump for up to 24-hours during a power outage emergency.

Yea, so it only comes with the one pump? I was thinking like 2 is what I want but to spend $350 on only one pump and the controller is kinda pricey...

As much as I want the VorTech, I think I'll have to pass it up just because of the price. I looked into Tunze and Seio products, what do you guys think of them? I will be buying one soon so i need all the input i can get!!

For the vortech, could I use only one on my 120 or would I need more?? Also, does the controller only fit one??

i just bought 8 maxijett and 4 sure flow mod? marine depot sent me a eco mod i ve tried it on my 900 mj they have a lot of flow and marine depot suggest eco mod for 400 and 600 only so the sure flow will be so much more flow and yes sure flow have a adapter to move it around just like the korallia with magnet (korallia won't stick to acrylic over 3/4 " thick from what 'ive heard so mj 900 with sureflow kit 8.5 watts and 1600 gph better that korallia 4 and cheaper 16- 20 for mj and 15-20 for sure flow kit. just my 2 cents

you could probably use one. did you see how you could adjust the flow from 100gph to 3,000gph??? thats pretty crazy flow. i would try to get a hold of their company or someone who sells their stuff to ask about it, but it beats being stuck with something that only pushes a certain flow and thats it. its not like you can say "oh, 300gph wasnt enoguh, now i gotta upgrade.."

personally, I like the koralias over the maxi mods.
I have used both, and the flow out of the koralias is very nice, wide, genlte flow pattern. the maxi mods have a ton of flow, but it is too "linear" for me. Also the magnet/suction mounts for the koralias are great. 3 #4's would be great for your tank, and you can get all of them for 1/2 of what a tunze or 1/3 of a vortech.
The vortechs are awesome pumps , but $350 for a pump is absolutley ridiculous in my opinion.....especially when a koralia is $50
