Hydor Koralia size for 40 gallon

I have a 40 gallon flat back HEX. It is 20 inches tall and 36inches across the back. At the front it 24 inches wide.
I curently have 2 penguins producing 320 total, a skimmer giving me another 100, and a empty Eheim canister filter with at least 175. This gives me a little over 10x turnover.
I have soft corals and zoo's, and will have some LPS but not SPS (not enough light).
Would 2 Hydor Koralia #3's give me too much flow in a 36" long tank? I would like to quit using the canister flilter and penguins.
I will most likely upgrade in a couple of years to a 75 or 90 gallon and I would like to keep the power heads for the new tank.
Thanks in advance,
Jeff

i think 2 #3 would be fine..if it is to much for the 40gallon you can always take one out and set to the side until you get your 75 or 90....i have 2 #4 in my 90 and that is more than enough flow with the mag 7 return...i am pushin 30x turn over...starting to think it might be a little much for LPS

yeah...two of the #3's in a 40 might be a little strong for soft corals. I put just one #3 in my 55g recently, and with another smaller eheim powerhead I have blowing across the sand, that's even a lot of flow.

i just bout some frogspawn and xenia last night i may have to pull one of my #4's out but for the future use in a 90 i think a #3 is good...wish i wouldnt have sold mine now

FWIW I just got 2 #1's for my 29 and with I would have gotten the #3's or at least the 2's. The flow is really spread out and gentle but I just think I could use more.

How about 2x #4s in a 46? I keep mostly SPS. I also keep some zoas and recordia low in the tank.

I dont have the koralia, but I have 2 modded tunze 6025s (1000-1200 gph each) and a Sure Flow mj1200 (1600gph) with mag 7 return in my 65, which is 36" long and 24" deep. i have no problem with the sand bed.
Its sps dominated, so i need all the flow.
My point is, I dont think 2 #4s would be too much in there, depending on why you needed the flow.

I have two #2's and they work great. Everything is moving. Sometimes I think it's to much but everything is growing good and my sand bed is always clean.

After having them in my tank for a couple days now id have to agree with you. They dont blow the sand around but the do move it if aimed more than slightly downward. I could get away with #2's but the 1's seem to be perfect.

wow...that's pretty wild. I guess for SPS I could understand the 2 #3's...maybe. Not for any other reason though.

I never used a modded maxi, tunze or anything before the koralia I just got...the amount of flow it produced was just more than I thought it was going to be I think. It's nice though...

You can find tricks to get the flow to not disturb the sand. You can have the powerheads in the opposite back corners and aimed at the front glass. Or aimed at each other. This will create very random flow as the colliding water creates different flow patterns.

Got any pictures I'm thinking about getting a #1 for my 29 but not sure how it will look.

I just ordered a koraila nano for my aquapod. They are only 2x3 inches with 240gph flow. With the wide flow pattern, it should be perfect....I HOPE!!!

My LFS plugged one in for me to feel it was the number 1 and I was acutally thinking it may not be powerful enough for my 29. I do like the dimensions of that nano. Just hit the shelves yesterday I believe.
Still would like to see the pic when ya got a chance.
