Hydroid??

Ok, sorry I can't get a pic, my camera isn't good enough to take a clear one.
But, do hydroids sometimes have hard tubes??
On this new rock I got there are a bunch of feather duster looking things all over the rock, but instead of being white/ light colored, they are a red/brown rust color. They are in little colonies in different places around the rock.
Anyone have a good pic? All of the pics I find look nothing like it except for one. But that pic is a top view, it doesn't show the base:

So, I have read that kalk paste works, epoxy works, etc. But, this is new rock in a new nano (well, new to me anyway), should I just boil or bake it to make sure they all die?
