Hydrometer cleaning

I heard that over time, salt build-up will affect the accuracy of a hydrometer. I really don't want to buy a refractometer, and I am very sure there is a way to clean the salt out of a hydrometer. Will -soaking the hydrometer in cleaning solution for 24-48 hours every month-work? If not, what other methods can I use?

you should rinse your hydrometer in fresh water after every use. if you havent dont so you can soak it in RO water for 24 hours.

I have been rinsing the hydrometer after every use, but there still seems to be some salt building up. Will the RO water completely clean out the hydrometer of built-up salt?
