hey, i just bought this hydrometer that bobs in the water....has anyone ever used something like this before?? i hate my plastic deep six thing...so i thought id try this, and advice it this works or not?? thanks

Yeah I've used them in the past till I dropped the dang thing while it was in the case.....It was a well padded case and the thing still broke.....Do yourself a favor and save the cash your going to spend on that hydrometer and buy yourself a refractometer....

I use a glass hydrometer. I found that placing it and the water in a tall boy glass like a 22oz beer glass works great. You will lose your mind trying to take a reading in the tank.

yea, it is hard to find a refractormeter that isnt online...and plus thats a lot of money,lol...so i thought i could try this one at least...just didnt know its accuracy rating

ditto on this........You can get a good refractomomter for 50.00 or so. Thier a lot easire to use.

I had a "bobbing" thermometer/hydrometer thingy 15 years ago. NOT really any good IMO. I bought a refractometer on the auction site. $34 plus shipping, LOVE IT! If yours has a thermometer in it, do not leave it in the tank. The flow could make it bump into something and crack. Mercury and glass shards are not what ya want in the tank IMO. Ha!
