Hydrometers

I have a Deep Six plastic hydrometer that was given to me by my uncle who just recently got me into this hobby. The hydrometer works pretty good for the most part, but sometimes I get a reading that is way off, and sometimes I can test 5 times in a row and get 5 different readings. I usually keep testing until I get 2-3 identical readings. Some days I will not get any false readings. My uncle has one that is sort of like a small scope that you look through after you put water on this piece of glass at the tip of the scope. 100% accurate. Was wondering where I can get one that is very accurate, but not rediculously priced. What do you guys recommend?

Refractometer for high accuracy. Swing arm hydrometers are way off. A good glass hydrometer is better than a swing arm, but a refractometer will give you very accurate results.

i just got a refractometer and found my swingarm is about .005 off... my salinity had actually been around 1.028 with me thinking it was 1.023..... so yes, they can be very off.
the refractomer was pretty cheep off ----... and very usefull when setting up a QT tank.. which is why i got something more accurate.

Without sounding rude, noone has answered the question yet. You all agree that is more accurate but the question asked was WHERE.
(I would also like the answer)

We also got ours off e-bay. It was a "buy this item now" type of thing. Around $50 with shipping. Along with being accurate, it's easier to use.

Its good to have a refractometer in case hyposalinity must be used. This type of device is recommend for hypo. Swing arms just wont do the job.
