hypo/copepod update

Hi All - Hyposalinity running at 1.009 since Wed. My ich is in 3rd stage and last night SMALL spots (ich) are on the powder blue tang. (1 & 2nd time ich has bloomed, attached, enlarged themselves, fallen off then regenerated & during this time I used the reef safe product-obviously did not work)
From all the searching I did under hypo on this website, I have learned ich will get bigger, fall off, regenerate into 200 more baby ichs then my hypo will kick in.
Q=After that point is when I should start counting 28 days...please verify for me.
Q=do you recommend I drop salinity to 1.008?
My fish are not stressed, eating very well, due to low salinity, level readings are ph 8.0, ammonia .25(not really but it's between 0 and .25), nitrate & nitite 0. Ammonia could be a little high due to seaweed, soaked in selcon, I leave in for my tang.
Copepod update: as of last night there is a DEFINITE DECREASE in copepods. I don't think they will servive as prev. posted by Terry. Oh well. I'll keep you updated...thanks again for your help (in advance) :)

Carrie, I'm about 9 days into hyposalinity (ie; 9 full days at 1.009) and I noticed last night that almost all the copepodes in my tank are gone. There were only a few left that I could see, but I don't expect them to last much longer. My poor mandarin fish is going on a diet for the next 3 weeks! He doesn't seem to like any other foods so far.

are you all hypo ing your main tank with live rock in it. Doing this is going to kill alot if not all the living things on your rock. You should be doing this in a q tank with a bare bottom and no live rock in it.

What's up?
In my tank I have no live rock, never have, Copepods caught a ride on my powder blue tang. I know strange...I don't have live substrate either.
3-1/2 wks ago brought home new powder blue, FW dipped 10 mins then put into tank. I was unaware of a hospital/QT tank at that time. My bad! Now my main tank undergoing hyposalinity and my h-tank has my inverts...
I originally posted under "2nd day hyposalinity/flame died". This is a follow up w/ just a few more questions :)
One more question: tank temp is 77. Is that sufficent or should I increase temp?
Tks!

doing hypo in the main tank I think will kill off alot of the beneficial bacteria in the sand bed. You might have to recycle your tank after wards

Hypo will not kill your nitrifying bacteria. I wouls start the 28 days after you see no more spots. That is what I have always done. As far as dropping the salinity any lower I dropped mine to 1.007 for a week after the spots were gone then up to 1.009 for the rest of the time. If you are not using a refractometer be sure your hydromter is accurate by comparing it against one your lfs may have. If you dont your treatment may not be successful because most hydrometers read a point to 5 points higher or lower then actual specific gravity.

i talked to a fish handler today about ick, and hypo, and he recommended to decrease salinity and increase temp. he said around a couple degrees at a time but could go as high as 85f. anybody else had experience with this? the higher temp is supposed to make the ich parasites harder to hold on to the host. anyone else agree??
