Hypo question.

i like fish

I know you always say not to go above 1.009 s.g., but what happens at 1.008, or even 1.007?
Will this kill the fish?:(

from what I have heard is fish get stressed below 1.009 . I have a fish in QT right now and was kind of tough getting right on the mark ... good luck

fish don't handle anything below 1.009 well, but that is the point where ich will die off. are you using a refractometer?

What happens if one can't really afford a refractometer, what is the next best thing? Or can you use a different type? This is to do a hypo.

Are you referring to correcting the S.G?
If so,
Yes, you would need to temperature correct to whatever your hydrometer is made to be calibrated to. Glass ones that I've used are set at 80F.
If you have a digital or a refractometer, they are automatic temperature correcting.

I'm really wanting a more specific alternative to measuring SG for doing a hypo, if one can't purchase a refractometer.
